Tesla’s Full Self-Driving Software Under Scrutiny Amid Safety Concerns
U.S. senators Edward Markey and Richard Blumenthal have called for a federal investigation into Tesla's Full Self-Driving (FSD) software following reports of safety lapses. The lawmakers highlighted instances where the system allegedly failed to detect oncoming trains at railroad crossings, citing a 2024 incident in Ohio where a Tesla in FSD mode collided with a crossing arm.
NBC News documented six driver complaints involving rail crossing malfunctions, supported by video evidence and 40 additional written reports. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration confirmed awareness of these issues but hasn't yet initiated formal proceedings. This development underscores growing regulatory pressure on advanced driver-assistance systems as they approach wider adoption.
